just wondering because ive never looked in to them, and RO water seems a real pain to get so can they have water from a tap? Im not getting any Discus but im thinking for the future, so i know if they would be an option or not.:naughty:

Thread moved here so you'll get faster responses. In my experience, no, and I do not believe you want pure RO water for them either. What matters most however is acclimating them properly as they are very sensitive to sudden changes in water conditions. Once properly acclimated, I find them rather sturdy and exciting to have.

Good luck!

Thankyou very much. :)

No and i have a pair of wilds that do mate in tap water and have babies in a 30 gal tank to prove it . just stay up on water changes regularly and watch for clorine burn when doing water changes i use "prime" and double up the dose if you have a lot of clorine in your water.

My discus are in straight areated tap water. RO is only required for breeding..........

Domestics, no. Wilds, it depends on your water's hardness. Not everybody's tap water is the same, remember that.

Have an RO system set up at home going into a large crocodile box which has an air stone in it and a heater
Was not that hard to set up ( the wife did it in a matter of mins ) and makes water changes dead easy as the water is already aged , aerated and at the right tempreture for changes so I would recommend it, granted it is probably not for everyone but makes water changes twice a week pretty simple and the tests come back with nitrates and nitrites at 0 so all good :)
