As title states. I have found that true HRP dont have the orange that female Cons do.

Is this correct? Are there exceptions?

Thanks...Bill

IME, not always. I had a group of 10 for a few months in a 265g and thought they were mostly male because of a lack of orange. A few months later, I ended up having several pairs and only 2 out of 5 spawning females showed orange.

I've witnessed the strain I'm working with looses its red in both males and females when mature. Picture of 2" female and a little over 3.5" male. Old picture but, they lost the red flanks and fins when much smaller. They are probably on thier third or forth spawn in the picture.

All of mine are showing the red on their sides right now, and they are from the same parents pictured above. They are still small though, still have a ways to grow. Definitely females though.

HRP are a hard species to verify specific traits throughout the whole line. There are a half a dozen collection points for fish being called HRP and all the HRP/Nigrofasciatus mixes out there makes a mess of it at best.

+1

The HRP around here are the ones with pink/red in the fins and they have some orange. Like Cavamart says it probably depends on where they're from/collected.

These two are young specimens
