Hey everyone, I was in the local LFS getting some super worms for my lizards and noticed that they had received a shipment of spiny eels. It has been years since I kept a peacock eel and the shipment contains some nice fat 4" specimins and some as small as 2". what caught my atention though was two of the smaller ones (not smallest) had no occelaris on their fins and they had the stripe pattern of a fire eel just with much less colour. they looked a lot like smaller versions of this picture of fire eel fry ( http://www.fishchannel.com/images/fish-species/freshwater/fire-eel2-500px.jpg )

Does this mean that they are some baby fire eels mixed in with the peacocks? or do you think it is quite simply variation? the two I saw stayed away from all the others and having owned a fire eel and a peacock before at different points they caught my attention as looking like fire eels.

yeah but at the 1"-3" mark they wouldn't really know the adult size. either way I have a 20l and a 225 so whichever it is I could keep it. just wondering If I should see if the firey ones are still there

Went back today and the store was doing a buy one get one free deal, I paid 15 dollars for 2 of the eels, one of them a young fire eel (looks identical to an adult just smaller) and one a yellowish coloured mottled eel. I got them both as "peacock Eel"
