ok here's the story.... my 7inch gold severum had this thing hanging out of his anus..( see pics ) so i put him in a 20gallon tank with filter/heater and treated the tank with anti internal bac meds for what i thought was camallanus worms. so yesterday i was doing the 50% waterchange on the tank he was led under the filter....not good! seriously i thought he was dead so i turned the filter/heater off.

i come back with my bucket to do the water change and i just poked him with the end of my net and for about 20 seconds big huge bubbles came from his anus! the bubbles were that big i could hear them pop against the surface! so i finish the water change... and the thing coming from his anus was gone! not come out but popped back in! now hes in the 100G tank again as good as new! like nothing happend!

That's a very good question and a strange series of events...

I remember how upset you were when you were trying to figure out what it was, and now it farts and it's fine..........that's the strangest thing I've ever heard. Well, whatever you did, you fixed it! lol I would laugh hysterically if that happened to me.

haha. intestinal inversion [i think that's what it's called] ? i've read about that happening with [salt] sharks... no problems if that's the case. only danger would be if another fish bit the distended intestines. obviously keep the water pristine as well.

the reason i moved him out of the big tank was that my blood parrot was trying to eat his intestines! which i thought was worms....haha trust my bloody fish to have wind!

Can fish suffer from intestinal prolapse? I.e. where the internals come out? (This can happen in horses, humans etc. from things like straining to poop too hard, during childbirth, when weight lifters heave on the weights with an inadequate belt-support) But then I don't know if fish actively squeeze to poop or if it's automatic musculature movement. Either way, could that be inside-out intestine? It would explain the mystery blob vanishing back inside again after the gas had passed.

Beat me to it. :)

very strange! he had it about 3days....i've researched so hard, thought it was camallanus worms so i was getting ready to treat him with something that could have killed him! phew so glad i didn't do it.

he isn't eating yet...but he went for the food then spat it out...i'll get him some shrimp from the market tonight

also the whole tank is treated with anti internal bacteria medication...this will still be ok? i think he ripped his anus a little so will this help him not to get infected?

haha also i called my mum up when i thought he was dead...so i poked him...watched all these bubbles ...looked at my mum and said " did that fish just fart?" haha
