Fresh import fish is always skinny, so no, they don't get food everyday in the wild.

I heard that wild fish are not fed 2 days prior to shipping....This way, the fish waste is kept low in the shipping bags they are in....

Should fast anything prior to shipping - wild or not.

Fish in the wild can be 'fat and 'healthy'. If you look at say reef related tangs for example, I bet most are 'thicker' than what hobbiests keep in tanks.

Wild fish won't eat just because there is food, they eat when hungry. There are several examples that could be used to show that.

So I guess the next question is should we fast our fish or not? And what are the advantages or dis-advantages of doing so.

Pros, helping with constipation
Cons, hunger

I dont think bigger fish fast because they have no food, its not like they swim days on end without ever finding a single species of fish. Its like man when you have a huge meal your usually set for a long ass time. Or when you feed your giant catfish they are usually fine for a while.

They are like dogs...when you give them food they eat it all or until they are as full as can be.
Wow, who gave you that info?
I have 3 dogs and all feed freely. They get a 40 Lbs. bag and eat when they want. Myth, it's all myth and false information. I would have had dead dogs a long time ago based on that idea.
Horses are the same way. I used to have 2 horses who free fed. They ate when and how much they want.
We don't know feeding habits of wild animals. As much as it's documented, it's only a small portion of their lives that we actually see.
Personally, I think the idea behind not feeding your fish everyday is the activity level you get when fish are hungry. A full fish will lay around as their metabolism slows. Not so fun to look at. Don't feed your fish for a day and they are jumping around and a lot more active.
Fish "fasting" would be them NOT catching a meal, unless they observe Easter.

My fish dont sit around when full. My dogs also have unlimited amount of food and never eat til they fall over

fish in wild do go w/o food for days
the red tailed catfish for example would eat a meal and rest for a few days before it is up and ready looking for food
i do fast most of my fishes especially the africans in the pond as they seem much more active and many of the times i have seen them eating the algae there

the pros w/ fasting
much active fish
i think it clears their systems
helps with the water management issues :D

the cons
there might be chances of big fish eating small fish
there is a little more aggression
feels kinda bad to leave them hungry when they are actually swimming nilly in front of you every time you come near their tank

I just feed every other day, doesn't do much harm if any and it cuts down the cost of food, water changes and cost of supplies, fish still grow the same...

I just dont see the point in feeding your fish 2-3 times a day every day, I feed once every other day and all my fish are healthy and fat...
