I read somewhere that fish metabolise food faster in warmer water and when the water is cold their metabolism slows right down. I've seen this happen first hand in the pond. When the weather is cooler, the fish eat less or stop eating altogether, and when it warms up they eat more.

This got me wondering if they metabolise faster in warmer water could you speed the growth of a fish (an arowana for example) by having the tank heater set slightly too warm? Would there be any health issue for the fish?

This does increase their growth rate but at the same time, shorten their lifespan. Make sure your fish can tolerate the high end temperature otherwise they become prone to health issues. Neon tetras, goldfish and panda corydoras are primary examples of subtropical to coldwater specimens that will not tolerate warm temperature. It simply shortens their lifespan and even kill them in the process.

Try feeding more high quality high protein foods several times a day, just keep the food from going uneaten (vac uneaten food) or you may have water quality issues.

I'm not worried about the speed they grow at personally. My fish get the water they need and the food that works for them and if they grow fast good, as long as they're healthy. I was just wondering if it was possible
Thanks for your thoughts

So I gotta ask...what kind of fish you have in Dubai? Been there and im guessing youre one of the few who does not need to keep a heater
