fish don't sleep, they keep their eyes open at all times for safety purposes. but they do rest(you can tell when their body color turn dark/dull) at night when lights are turn off in order to recover their energy. my fish sleep as soon as the room darkens(7pm or 1am whenever i sleep) and wake up very early in the morning(when sun comes out) waiting to be fed.
i'm watching a shark documentary on australian coastal sharks. it's on planet green hd. they were just showing white tips hunting at night. they hunt sleeping fish. they said that fish sleep by shutting off the video signal to the brain at night, since they don't have eyelids and can't close their eyes.
