I bought my FH when it was less than an inch for 7 bucks. As it grew it developed the generic black marks along its side. However, 7 months down the road all but one black mark on the tail fin (much like the male oscars) exist, and the fish is a silvery blue color. Ive noticed lately that the tail fin is developing more red/purple color but the body is bland. Will my fish become beautiful by chance or is it a dud?

dud, low end fish

My guess would be female but not 100% sure. You need to vent it to be sure.

it may not be that pretty, but she has great genes for pearls... if you really wanted to breed her, get a nice male and the babies should look like extra pearly versions of the father, or you might get blue dragon. otherwise, i'd say start over and get a few youngsters from elsewere and let them pair up on their own... or raise some babies and pair them yourself...

either way, good luck!

If you wanted to breed her to somthing that would improve the potential size of the nauchal hump and not cost an arm an a leg try getting an Amphilophus xiloaensis. There is already a good amount of Amphilophus blood in that fish so the pairing should be easy and the offspring should show an nice NH (KOK) with some interesting colors. Tangled up in cichlids has some nice ones in stock now. Just a thought.
