I have never added salt to mine and they are thriving well. Most of the sites I am on, most members do not add salt, but many do.

Do You?

i put aquarium salt and my fronts are ok.. i dink u should be cause most cichlids like brackish water..

There is a certain type of African Cichlid salt that is purported to have some of the minerals that are found in Lake Tanganika that some stores carry.I used it years ago untill I learned that a lot of these African Cichlids are bred in Florida and I had no way of proving the claims on the label.

So....what is your opinion on this? lol! I'm con...fused! I know that on my Frontosoa site they use just reg table salt IF they use salt at all ~

I think I got your opinion after reading it again. lol! So you do NOT use salt?

I always add salt to my tang tanks. Their colors are more intense and their growth is improved with the addition of salt. However, I don't add sea salt (sodium chloride). Instead, I add rift lake salt (calcium chloride) to all their tanks. I also add aragonite gravel to their substrate to keep a balanced high pH (along with bulk limestone/holey rock).

It's my preference. Especially since I buy WC groups for breeding purposes. Spending a few hundred on salt and substrate setups isn't difficult when striving to provide the best environment possible for thousands of $$ in Samazi, Karilani, Kitumba, Nangu, Mpimbwe, etc. strains of fronts and several strains of Tropheus.
