One of my friends got me paranoid about this (briefly). He asserted that my tank bred fronts would be much happier in Lake Tang conditions. I gradually raised ph and hardness and quickly emptied my pockets.
I saw no peceptible difference in my fronts, they were as active as they always were (which is not very) and there colours were as beautiful as always.
In a situation such as mine I think adjusting salt lvls and such is just something else that can go wrong. I adjust new fish to my water and they seem to thrive.
