do gars leap for food if you dangle it slightly above the water surface?

was thinking if they need a lid on the tank if the water level is not too high :)

Yes you will need a top . I've found my Gars on the floor numerous times.

you definitely need a top on the tank. can't think of any predatory fish that hobbyists keep that you shouldn't used a top for...except dead ones...and soon-to-be-dead ones that are on the floor because there was no top...--

alright.. thanks guys :) i have a hood haha.. more of wondering whether they have crazy jumping capabilities.. obviously not like the arowana

Think of a missle being launched into space from a submarine under the oceans surface and you will have an appropriate visual of a gar jumping from the tank.

I hear mine jumping at night sometimes...and they get scratches on their backs sometimes which can only be from my hood...

i used to hand feed mine prawns before my whole tank got wiped out and lost him.
