Tupe is like a light brown to gray clear color if that makes any sense lol and you'll see bothy of the in the breading spot she will whip back and forth over the flat serfice she has chosen laying eggs the male will do the same after her to fertilize them they both will become extremely agreasive and protective of the breading spot and will not allow any other tankmates to come near just keep an eye out for the tube once its out its pretty easy to tell it wont pop all the way out right away at least my females didnt but soon as i seen it she laid later that day like within the hour

Okay, how long is the tube? Is he supposed to be attacking her? He's been chasing her very quickly for almost an hour and they aren't stopping. Whenever he's close enough he nips at her. Is this normal?

Its normal but if contunes and gets pretty bad like ripped fins amd open cuts then separate them for a bit and try again once she back to health the tube isnt that big umm not sure of exact size ill see if i have a pic of mine when she laid and ill post it so you can have a better idea of what im talking about what size are your jacks?

okay I can see it. My jacks are just over 6 inches long each. The male is bit taller and quite a bit stockier. The females fins are getting torn up a bit and her sides look all scratched up, probably from scraping on the sandstone rocks when swimming really fast. Whats a quick and easy way to divide the tank? I don't have an actual divider so i need to use something around the house. and thanks srigo for all the helpful info! So back when I first introduced them and they did the flapping and lip locking, was that just them pairing up and not preparing to breed? When they were doing it at first I thought they were getting ready to breed but its now 2 weeks later and there are no eggs.

Yeah just give it some time she might not be ready yet so thats i know its usualy around a month or so in between cycles as far as a divider i use these plastic ege crate things i know its for ceiling lighting from home depot its like 13 bucks for a piece about four feet long by three wide and just match size you need and cut it it works great and i know a lot of people use them or try using some dithers ( target fish) to help him direct is aggression elswhere it might help
