Do I have enough filtration? (120 gallon, stock list)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok thanks. guess that makes sense. im working with 25% wc twice a week and will be getting a nitrate reactor also so hopefully nitrates will stay under control

The filtration won't be a problem, so long as you upgrade it accordingly as you upgrade the tank as the arowana grows...

Im curious. Obviously the 120 isnt going to be big enough long term. But filtration-wise, would a 30 gallon sump be considered enough filtration for a well stocked 120?

How long is a piece of string? How is the sump designed? What media is in there? What is the flow like? Sumps can be very efficient when done right, so I can't see a problem.

we had a 40B coverted into a simple sump, filter sock, and pot scrubbies.. did a 50% wc weekly and at one point had it stocked with 3 rays (10",8", 6" disk) and 5 gar over 14" and a spiney eel around 20"... used a mag 9.5 to run it and never had water quality issues.

obviousley not ideal, the fish are now in a much bigger set-up. But sumps can handle a surprizing amount of waste.

Don't forget the pbass in there

Filtration is fine, sumps do wonders.

However, you tank is too small for that stock as they grow. Specifically, the Silver and Knife.

Silver arowana is going to grow much quicker and much larger then the Pbass. Gauging the tank size to the arowanas growth will work just fine for the others fish in the tank.
