do i have enough filtration?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you can never have to much filtration, The xp4 is good by its self. But the emperors will help move the water and polish it they are mechanical and the Canister is for the biological.

Is this your first Tank
i
no it isnt. i have been keeping cichlids for over ten years now, but this is my first tank over 55 gallons. i have also never used a canister filter before. when i was setting my tank up i was told the two emporers would be plenty but after reading a lot of the posts on here i started to think otherwise

Hook up the canister. Then I would say your good if your nitrates stay in check within a weeks time.

Considering they have zero water bypass they beat the crap outta hobs, and some of the higher end models have insane options that sumps just don't have, personally I like the media configuration and efficient space (fx5) that makes it an all in one package, yeah a sump can in some cases be chaper but that doesn't necessary make all of them better when talking about higher end canisters. Given the tank isnt massive they are a good idea imo.
