Hi, I was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to use water conditioner if I let the water sit for a few days? I'm housing Arowana's and read that most chlorine will evaporate, but some water systems have other chemicals that don't evaporate. I'm wondering if anyone just lets water sit without using the chemicals? I can see this saving money in the long run, plus exposing the fish to less chemicals which would be great.

Chloramine would be another problem. Can't hurt to add dechlorinator to bind the chloramine. It is unfortunately not a gas compared to chlorine hence dechlorinator will be needed.

If you are using they city's water, I wouldn't risk it. Most likely it does have chloramine and that bottle of prime is definitely worth the money. You're paying for peace at mind knowing that your fish are ok after a water change. I used to have bottles of water sitting around and rotate them weekly for my water changes. Trust me...the bottle and a python is well worth it. Prime is pretty strong so depends on how big of a tank you have, a 16.9oz bottle can last you awhile.

No, Ctoychik. There isn't any side effect from the use of dechlorinator whether your source has chloramine and/or chlorine, or not.ctoychik;2152010; said:

that is why (one of the main reasons) i actually use it ^^ I don't use water conditioner for my bigger tank (3x2m) ... i just install a drinking filter at the end of the tap.

Either way, it is optional. You don't need to use it if you know your water is free from chemicals, etc that would harm your fish.
