Do I need carbon?

it's been well over a decade since I quit running carbon. not only are you saving yourself money by not using it, but you also reduce pollution with no transporting or manufacturing processes.

LOL, pretty much a unanimous decision. I thought so people liked carbon and some didnt, seems like not many people like it and its not needed. I read the carbon dies after 3 weeks and it must be replace, thats to much of a hassle for me to do when I can replace it with something else. I am going to replace that layer of carbon with something else in my canister, what do you think I should use?

I had a lot of problems with my tank when I ran carbon. Pulled it out and added sponges instead. I dont see and need to run it.

All the fish were fine in my 39 gallon, even when I was adding new fish all the time. Transfer them all into the 130 gallon and they catch ich in one week. I think im gonna leave it out.

Not only is it absorbing, but it will eventually leach everything it absorbs back into the water if not changed often. I don't use carbon because it's useless, water changes get the job done. If your looking to get something to replace carbon you should giving purigen a look up.

Great point, thats why it must be changed every 3 weeks. My frequent WC should suffice so I should be fine. Thanks man I'll look it up! I need something to replace it.

I assume a carbon-less tank is the way to go, youve been doing it over a decade. Extra money is always good ;). What exactly do you mean by no transporting or manufacting process? When the carbon releases all the pollutants back into the tank? Can you explain please.

I think he means pollution from getting the carbon to your tank. I gave up carbon when I got my first large tank ,85 gallon, I'm sold that you'll be okay without it.
