With an RO system, the electricity to run it will be pennies, but the high mineral waste water it produceswill be significant, and maintenance and replacement resin blocks will also be significant, depending on the quality of the RO system.
If you already own one, use it, it will do the job you require, but if you don't own one, and if you are "green" well......?
RO is not particularly good for freshwater fish, without blending regular tap water, or remineralizing it to the proper amount.
Salt water fish keepers use it because they are regularly adding salt mixes, and want consistency in those mixing results.
