True, can't argue when taken at the face value but could it be also a judgment call? Depends on a situation, I mean. Surely one cannot rescue an animal by buying it from a store or from an ignorant owner perpetuating the demand-offer logistic and ignorance / irresponsibility. That'd be aiding and abetting.
Lots of animals do get rescued out of dire circumstances. Cats and dogs, horses, birds, reptiles, etc. even primates all enjoy a system of well run shelters. They are not purchased of course when acquired.
Anyhoo, if the RTC is free and the prior keeper is eating the loss, then there is some hope. If they want to sell it, that's a different story but people are known to learn from their errors, not all but many. This could be that person too.
