DO NOT KEEP CRAWDAD

Common crays will definitely catch and eat fish. I do have these "Cherax lobsters" at work though, they are quite pretty and although they will take fish from me, they don't seem as capable of catching fish as the regular crays are. I had two rosy reds living with them for like 4 days in the 12x12ish space without feeding the lobsters, and they didn't get eaten.

Thats what I was told by a Missouri conservation agent at one of our nature centers.....Ive never heard of the "Chereux lobster" before, do they get big?

Lot of different subspecies to Cherax. Many come from Australia, Indonesia, and the surrounding areas. Some can get fairly large, but most average in the 6-8" range. A bit bigger than most north american varieties.

Search for Cherax Destructor, one of the more common ones.

Whew! Good to hear from all of you. I have crayfish in every one of my tanks. Except my Nicarauguan cichlids; they make short work of crays by crushing them to pieces but usually don't bother eating them!

I keep a couple of the big red Louisiana crays, def NOT fish friendly :naughty:

One trip the the shallow end of my creek will convince you that crayfish are adept hunters. It is, after all, the food chain.

I used to sit and watch them chase after and catch larva the size of small fish. They also chase and eat each other. They're awesome though and worth trying out. They are really easy to tame and will learn to hand feed quickly.

Next time try getting a smaller and more docile species with less of a pinch.

One of my favorite tank inhabitants!
