Do Oscar's really need a varied diet?

I know its uncharacteristic of Oscar's in general, but my guy refuses to eat floating food. This is why I've had trouble using pellets. 99% of them float, and the sinking ones I've come across are always way to small for him.

Beautiful O's Tony!

I hate to throw cold water on your pellet party but any cichlid can be happy and healthy using (good)flakes ...:popcorn:omega 1 and spirulina 20 are good examples.....

If we were discuessing Rams I would almost agree with you, however flakes do leech most of their nutritional value into the water rather quickly. This discuession is about Oscars which IMO would not do very well long term on a diet of flakes.
