I seen these before floating around and just when I think I got it all after a water change, it comes back. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the Oscar. The Oscar is 8" and he is recovering from HITH from a previous owner. Health wise he appears in good shape except that he hasn't been eating for a couple of weeks. He just recently took some pellets then spit them out (how rude). I had plants in the tank that were falling apart and I cleaned them all out. I even vacuumed the sand and after the water change, I don't see any of these things floating around. Then awhile later, I come back and the tank is full of it. It's like the Oscar is shedding hairs or something. There were a couple of snails in there but they are gone, this was prior to getting the Oscar.

Do they move? I've had small worm-things in my aquariums before that kind of sound like that, whats their size like?

Weird. To me the not eating part is more serious than the hairs, but could it be part of the plants falling apart? I have a surface skimmer attached to one of my canisters that clears the surface of one of my tanks pretty quickly. Cost about 10 bucks I think. That would help with it being unsightly and keep you from having to clean the tank so much......

Not eating for a few weeks is unusual though. Big fish can go for long stretches without food, but if he's still recovering it's important to get him to eat. Is he possibly eating/ shredding the plants?

The Oscar was recovering from HITH from a previous owner I got it off of CL. When I got him, he looked much worst, now it's mostly healed up and only small scars left. Overall he appears healthy as ever and swims around. The not eating part is a mystery to me. It's like he doesn't like my food. I asked the previous owner what they fed him and it was pellets. I feed my fish pellets too and some good ones and variety of other food. He gives me this look like WTF I aint eating that slop lol Only recently I tossed in a single floating pellet and he ate it. Then another and another, he had like 3 or 4, then he spit it all out in pieces. My other oscars down these things like candy. Last night I added some fungus meds, this morning I checked the tank and no signs of the white stuff. Will give it a good cleaning and the filter too.

^^ I recently picked up a few fish that absolutely would not eat anything offered for about a week. The I introduced a few small fish to their tanks and they started eating when they saw the other fish eat. If he's swimming around an acting better, he's probably just being stubborn in his new surroundings. The hair, well still don't know what to make of that.....but good news that it's no longer there.

HA thats how my oscar is! i throw im cichlid sticks and he's like wtf is this i aint touching that! nd if he does he spits it out fully intact doesnt really try to taste it all my other fish love it especially my jack..but wen i throw feeders does he love them so much! even the hes slow hes about 3 years old he will chase them down till there all gone! lol...but i got those things too in my tank! every time their gone they show up in the water changes and the longer one SWIM! in an S shape like a snake! ive bn trying to figure out what they are ive had them for 6 months now so far no deaths in my tank but their just anoying to have plus i read their nematoads that are harmless i hope so!
