do plecs .........

plecos can be a problem it may try to eat our bichirs slim coat same with catfish large plecos can take scales off certain plecos can be kept with bichirs no problem but others can kill bichirs eventually certain plecos don't really eat algae but are carnivores

While slimecoat removal is bad enough its the rasping teeth of pleco that really do the damage after getting thru the slimecoat the teeth of a pleco can delaminate the bichirs scales which if you were to look at them thru a microscope would resemble plywwod type layer construction-Anne

u can try, but KEEP ur eyes on them!!:)

my experience may help,
plecos are very dangerous to bichirs, they like to suck bichirs, I have removed my plecos from my tank after noticed they stuck on my bichirs many times.
and then I tried feifeng, but feifeng still has potential menace, once and my delhezi has a weak bacterial infection, it was not very serious, normally he will be ok after I raise the temperature and add a little medicine, but I put a new feifeng in the tank after i removed the pleco(let's name this one evilfeifeng:banhim:), and evilfeifeng like to suck other fish, especially those ill ones, it just kept sucking my infected del, and finally my del suffered a scale haemorrhage, and then died...
but evilfeifeng was killed by my bad tempered RTG later...:ROFL::ROFL:
so I bought another larger feifeng(let's name this one nicefeifeng :grinno:), he's very tender and never suck any fish in my tank. up to my research of feifeng, small feifeng are more tend to be carnivorous, and large feifeng are basically vegetarianism.
so buy a BIG feifeng if u really want a cleaner.

ok the pleco stays away from the bichir at what the heck is a feifeng

But how can you be sure... when it's lights out time?

That's how I found out mine was sucking on some of my other fish (not bichirs) Shorty after I went to bed one night, I got up and turned the 55 G tank light back on, when I heard thrashing and splashing around, only to see my 9'' Pleco sucking on my 14'' Shubunkin Goldfish and the goldfish going nuts trying to get away!!

So I tossed the Pleco in another tank with some African Clawed frogs, only to have it start the same thing with the frogs a bit later. I saw them all trying to kick the Pleco off of them. But the damn plec would not back off. So he was out of there.

Tell me it doesn't hurt. Pleco teeth hurt and cause damage and hemmoraghing. You can even see the marks those teeth cause.

feifeng = flagtail

Hmmm, reading this thread...makes me want to remove my pleco from my bichir tank. I didn't know pleco's liked to damage or suck on bichirs. wow...gees...now I am wondering where I can put my pleco. I don't want him hurting my bichir. :(
