I have had onhe silver aro for about 2 months and I bought another about two weeks ago. Thay are almost identical in size! For the first while they seemed to be best friends, swimming jointly, no problems at all. Just in the last two days my original seems to be getting a little aggressive towards the other. Arching his had back, puffing up his gills, and sometimes even going after the other. Do you think this will go away or should I seperate them, meaning give one away ; (

both beautiful fish!!

I had received two as a gift, only the fish store didn't mention that they shouldn't be kept together. Within a month, the other had taken a bite out of the other, and it was too late. I transfered him to another tank and put medicine in immediately, but he died. So that's how my aro received the name "killer". I've seen others on this website put black aros together. I wouldn't recommend silvers together, but others may say different...

I have heard that only fish that's grown up together goes together.
And that it should be both females..

I had two that went together nicely until one of them unfornutely died.
They were about 50 cm. then.

Well i think most of the time it boils down to the temperament of the aro.. if you get one crazy serial killer one then... It would also depend on the amount of space and food you have for them and if you have more tankmates, the strong aro would not constantly pick on the weaker one.

most of the time when we get silvers in in the store their fins are tattered badly that is because when they are young they do not get along well at all... I have seen many tanks with multiple adult species though. whether they are male female or a mix of the two is anyones guess... I would say try seperating them until they grow older and then maybe try and get them into the same tank... if you do in fact have a large enough tank to house two adult aro's
