Seeing the bars made me take a closer look at her. After noticing the bars... I looked a little closer and she also has a very small amount of black on her anal fin. It was to hard to catch but I'll try again. Maybe her look is one of the closest to the starting of the marble gene...

And the last pic is Casper her mate... but not a bonded pair because he only accepts her presence when she's about ready to spawn:naughty:. Lol

Any line bred fish will have genes that could bring it back to its original form.
In fact in any line bred spawn there will be the possibility of variations.

Because of this thread I checked the couple of pink convicts at work and sure enough the two females we have, have white bars. Pretty neat!

I have a black pair who throw about 40% pink each batch, out of those about half have some form of black on them.

That's interesting and thanks for sharing. They must both have the recessive pink gene... Next spawn you should take a closer look at them to see if any of the pinks display bars. If they do then look for small traces of black on the body. If you do find some... I would think they would be the foundation of what we know as marbled. Then with some line breeding you could get a heavier marbled look. Just my thoughts...

I used to have a pink male that had one black bar going down the right side of his face. I never raised any of his fry but my guess is that he had carried the marbling gene.
