Do some pink convicts have bars?

No he was given to me. I can ask but it's likely that he came from a Lfs

Oh ok. Well this female also came from the lfs(meaning I don't know her parents either) but they had pinks and marbles mixed together and that's why this one threw me off. I have Casper(who decided to eat their first spawn together) and a regular male that has the recessive marble gene(I know because I bred him) that I plan on breeding with her. But I'm going to see what she throws while paired with the 2 different males. I might post on this thread or start a new one but I'll be sure to share what becomes of their fry.

I haven't hear anything back from the person who gave me the male. That's a interesting start but it still brings up the question as to where the gene comes from to begin with or how to it becomes codominent

Yes you are very correct and this isn't the thread for all that scientific talk lol. I just want to know what they will produce. Now if I knew her lineage then things would be different. I am also curious about breeding my recessive marble gene regular con with a normal pink. Again this pairing wouldn't help explain anything either... Just curious on the outcome.

I say you have a 70/30% chance of establishing the begins of calicoes. I think if the recessive male and her are more likely to breed stronger marbling. I guess Casper carries the gene since he came from calico parents but it's still a guess cause there is a chance that he doesn't have the gene at all.

I agree that the recessive male and her could make stronger marbles. But since Casper came from 2 marbles... I would think he would easily produce marbles vs the color he is. Also Casper is not a solid white no more... He has small amounts of black on him that make him look dirty. Lol So I would call him a marble con but he is just lacking on "marble" coloration.

That's interesting and thanks for sharing. They must both have the recessive pink gene... Next spawn you should take a closer look at them to see if any of the pinks display bars. If they do then look for small traces of black on the body. If you do find some... I would think they would be the foundation of what we know as marbled. Then with some line breeding you could get a heavier marbled look. Just my thoughts...

all the pinks have bars in my fry, but they are feeders and i have no interest in line breeding cons, there is no market for them around here...Ill stick to my more expensive fish ^_^.

Does she carry the gene too or she just a pink con? If not then they might just produce more offspring carriers and you will have to breed those for the marbling to show. But if Casper and her do there is a chance of 25% pink or white, 25% recessive pink and the rest calico. Or atleast something to that effect.

Oh I agree... they are not worth my time either but I don't mind letting a few fry grow with their parents.

I got her from my lfs so I don't know. Here are a couple shots of the black on her...
