do they need hard water, what would harden the water. do they sell stuff for that? how would u manage to balance it out during water changes?

yes, they do (need hard water). and yes, they do (sell stuff to regulate PH). there are a lot of products that do this - follow the instructions on the product you choose to manage the PH during water changes.

you can also increase the PH of the water by having texas holey rock in the tank - but that can be expensive.

my ph comes out the tap at 7.6 so the ph is good as it is, im talkin hard as in magnesium pottasium all that crap lol cuz u can have soft low alkaline water with high ph, which is what i get were im at

IMO it's better to have stable water than to try and make it perfect. My pH is 7.4 and not very hard, but it's fine for my Africans.

Just leave it alone. As long as the kh is high enough to keep the ph stable you're in good shape. What's the kh? That's the number that really matters

the kh is like 3 lol, I heard that they need gh tho cuz of the minerals....this is were I get confused cuz can they live without those little mineral?

Stable is better if you can buy local bred fish they should be acclimatized to your water, and I would add limestone river rock to increase your hardness it will be stable.

Most of them are bred in Florida and not taken from the waters of Africa.I'm not sure if the waters in the breeding farms are made to mimic those of Tanganyica or Malawi.
