If you can get some used media from your lfs your tank should be ready to go in 24 to 48 hrs . Ive done this many times and have yet to lose a fish.

i just used media from my other tanks on my 120. only had it setup for 48 hours before i added my fish and not a single fish died or refused a meal
i have never really cycled a tank tho bc in the past i was un aware of all that biological stuff.
but never lost a fish. so i guess im just lucky.
i will be cycling my new salt tank tho.

Are you sure it wasn't water clarifier? My Eco-Complete came with a little pouch of water clarifier to clump the residual dust left on the product and have it settle out.
