Im not crazy about powerheads, but I need something to move the water around, are there any products that are shaped say like a heater, or at least one that will streach from the top to the bottom of the tank and shoot out a jetstream of water? Is there something like that?

Why aren't you a fan of them, have you tried the Hydor Koralia line? They use only 10 Watts of electricity but the Magnum models push as much as 2800 GPH.

Check them out at Marinedepot.com they're a lot more sleak and push a softer more wide current than a jet stream like most power heads.

Well Ive just found that they not only seem to get gunked up, they wear out too fast. Ive noticed with my old power heads and with my pump (using a whisper 100), it seems like after just a year, they dont blow air/water nearly as hard as when they were new. Just getting sick of having to replace BOTH of these items and Id like to try something new.

They require more routine maintenance due to being in exposed conditions, whereas filters impellers are in a dark area where diatom algae likes to build up and help lubricate things.

Look into the Koralia Powerheads, they're probably the best on the market for the price right now.

I've got Koralias in about all my tanks, they're great because they're magnetic and you can put them anywhere you want. Mine have been running a year without problems in my super hard water. The 'blades' don't even seem to get calcium deposits on them. I'm going to get one of the Magnums like DirtyBlackSocks is talking about (I think he's got one).

Ill definantly look at those, can you reccoment a GPH for a 125g tank? Also have you noticed how the pumps dont seem to hold up well over time either or am I maybe just buying a bad brand?

Only powerheads I've used as powerheads are Koralia's and AquaClear's...

Look into the Magnum's, if it's a 6 foot tank I'd go with 2100 GPH +

Wow those are pretty pricey, how about a 1200GPH on either side, think that would work?
