Do they really need caves?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've always used 1tbsp. of salt per 10 gallons if my fish got scratched up. I nursed a neon tetra that nearly had its whole tail bitten off back to health with a little salt (and a 1-2deg. F temp boost as well).

My Ck at about five inches prefers to hover in the exact middle of the tank. When food hits the water he starts swimming everywhere. In with two small oscars, RTC, bichirs and plecos. No fear what so ever.

We use start right whenever our fish get scratched up. It helps prevent infection and disease, plus we have lots of snails and they don't mix well with salt.

Our ABK is in our planted tank, which when we brought him home we knew we were going to have to give him shade. So at first we put fake leaves at the top of the water, it didn't look the prettiest but it worked.

When we rearranged the tank, my boyfriend built a little rock formation and took the leaves out. Our ABK, which we named "A-K" (as in the gun), he loves it. I love waking up in the morning and turning on his light and watching him dart from one side all the way to the other side and under his rocks.

its a complete success. i did put in salt and the wounds are healing up. and he's happy inside the cave with 'plant gates'. hehehe thanks everyone for sharing those experiences.
