Do they really puff up????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont know about FW puffers but I know that SW puffers will occasionally fully inflate just to keep their skin streched and pliable in case they need to puff from fear or predatation. It is quite impressive when they inflate.

In SW I know it is really bad if they ingest air instead of water. That is why I always use a cup to transport them and never expose them to the air.

ok thank you all. Im going to the LFS this weekend and gonna get a few dwarf puffers. You think a raphael catfish would be good in there too?

Raph cats get quite large--big enough to eat small puffers, killing them both (puffers are poisonous). Adding plants & water, does not cycle a tank. Please read this & cycle your tank properly, before more fish die in there from an uncycled tank:

ok i red it and my tank is cycled. So it was useless reading that.

So would oh maybe a cray fish be good in the tank with them and maybe a few ghost shrimp?

Ghost shrimp are good, crays will try to eat the puffers.

Please explain how you cycled that tank, why you think it's cycled & how you are keeping it cycled with no fish in there?

BTW, just curious--how old are you?
