do they stock brown trout in ca and if not why

Not sure about northern and southern CA but they do in the Merced River and reservoirs around Yosemite. Brown trout and carp are the only fish I've caught within 2 hours of my house but I talked to the game warden about it and they stock them weekly during the spring/summer

I think it is more of a supply issue than anything. I know the private lakes stock them all the time and I've caught nice ones out of Irvine and Corona before. I think any browns would get eaten in dvl by the stripers but arrowhead and big bear could potentially be good brownie fisheries. But to answer the question, as far as I know, only the private lakes in socal stock them, no DFG stockings.

The rivers and lakes in central ca are owned by the local irrigation districts so it isnt the actual city stocking them here either. I grew up in norther ca and I'm pretty sure they stock rainbows but its been a long time since I've fished up there
