No, definitely not. But be careful... some people fry insects with laser pointers, so make sure it isn’t a super powerful laser or you could potentially hurt your fish

With dogs and cats, there is a belief that it is not good to play with them with a laser pointer for the fact that since they can't ever catch it, they never get the "reward" associated with the task, which is what leads to the neurotic behavior.
I don't know if a fish has that complex a brain to have the same issues. However, a fish is going to chase a laser pointer because it is either intruding on territory or otherwise making the fish feel threatened. I'm not sure it would be a good idea.
Just my .02's on the subject.

Just don't point it in their eyes.

That was my first thought when I saw this thread.

Years ago, my GF at the time didn't know about better and pointed one into my eyes. Obviously I got really mad. I had to explain why as she didn't realize it causes damage.

Laser pointer light isn’t laser light and can’t cause damage to eyes.

I have a laser thermometer that I use to tell the temp of my tanks and when my oscars see the dot on the substrate they chase it. I couldnt imagine it doing harm unless its shines in their eyes or they run into decorations while chasing it

it dont think it's too bad every once in a while if you don't shine it in their eyes

Most laser pointers are too weak to cause immediate damage, they're only in the few milliwatt range. But there are many that most definitely are powerful enough.
