Do you add salt to your tank ? (Freshwater)

The only time i use salt is when i bring in new natives, Then only in my quarantine tank. It is a 15 breeder, and i added about a handful of aquarium salt at startup. run biowheel filter, no filter pads and, only add more when i change water after keeping the new fish there for a couple of weeks, Maybe does no good, but i never have disease problems, and i definitely dont need any in my show tanks, Dont really care for harsher chemicals although i realize they do have their place.

My point about the use of salt is it does not prevent ich from coming down on the fish assuming this strain of ich is already resistant to the presence of salt but it does destroy them if the strain has never been adapted to water conditions with salt in it. Still, this does not justify the excuse to use salt permanently in your tank. Why do you think freshwater is freshwater? There is a big difference in the use of salt meant for saltwater, brackish and freshwater. In the African rift valley cichlids' case, mineral salts are used, not the sodium chloride meant for treatments.

So, would YOU use moderate amounts of salt to treat Ich?

Please define moderate. The term is pretty subjective. I use a tablespoon per 5g dose when I treat for ich.
