i could see if for some housing reason or some other personal reason only having 1 tank, and having it as a specimen tank for a jar or an RTC

but short of that i like having a bunch of tanks ^^

AGREE!!!! ONE IS NEVER ENOUGH im housing three flowerhorn's one that is faded and 1 lionhead goldfish 1common pleco 1 sail fin pleco 2 channel cat's and 1 african clawed frog i know it's not a big collection but space is very short of what i want and im not gonna rest till i have my own fish room.... little by little i guess

and no there not all in the same tank's!!!

There is never enough....you can say that about tanks too!

x2 . . . I can't go back to having just one fish, any more than I could go back to having just one tank . . .

actually when i first got into freshwater i always would fantasize the idea of having "1 monster lurking in that tank to wreak havoc upon unwary feeders".

and yes i do still like that idea but theres way too many fish to know which one you want to be that "dwelling monster" so you end up buying many.

but then even if you can find that 1 monster in the tank, you have another craving for a "swarming" tank with Ps or exodons etc. so in truth you essentially have a few different themes for different tanks to suit your day.

Best said so far I gotta 2X retuks :headbang2

Agree, one is never enough. The closest i've got is a lone Jag but 'had' to have a Pleco in there too as just 1 fish didn't seem right. Still ended up getting a school of SD's to go in there too after a couple of months anyway so 1 is definatly not enough.

I have a very territorial tilapia. He has been the sole occupant of his tank many times.

However that was one tank... I had other fish in other tanks.

And even he is in a community now, I just had to learn what fish he would get along with. Turns out danios and giant danios are fine?!? He also has a tiger loach and a sail fin pleco now too. I suspect he is about to get a golden gourami, but that will be a trial situation.

I know of people that have a single beta and are happy. So I know it can be done. I am just not one of those people. I can't even fathom being restricted to one tank again. I only had one while I was in grad school, but that didn't last long.
