Do you breed for money??

Everything from A to Z literally - tropicals, ferns, bulbs, aroids, trees, vines, succulents, caudiciforms, fruits, orchids, you name it.

(And my fish are in my plant house!)

Yeah my planted tanks make way more money than my breeding projects. Between a 125g, 20g, and 55g I make over $100/year from java moss, java fern, and water sprite. Try to get half of what the store sells it for in store credit (except some plants and cichlids). They will still be making more money than if they got it wholesale cuz you will be spending the money on a marked- up product. As for fish I'd say altum angels have good potential, as their retail price is still high. Theyre a cichlid so they're probably easy enough to breed. I know UF is currently working on bichirs and roseline sharks. Those could be lucrative too. Frontosas are always pricey as well!

My old man used to breed fish for a living in the late 80s and early 90's. He did it in the basement of our family home so he could be a stay at home dad.

He had 26 40 breeders plus tons of odds and ends on steel racks ran off a blower.

He had a friend who owned an LFS and he was the sole supplier of their fish, and he drove around the greater Milwaukee area selling fish to other shops.

It wasn't high ticket stuff he just did it on a massive scale. Corydoras cats, gouramis, angels, danios, live bearers. He didn't make tons of money but with the offset of not paying child care it wasnt too bad. If I remember he usually got less than $.25 for juvenile gouramis.. but when you've got several hundred of them, its a decent payout.. or was In 1990

lol i would breed for money!-)

It depends on your area. I live in El Paso TX (not the smallest city) and I know a ton of people breeding a good variety of stuff and they always have issues selling them off.
