Do you ever buy live bacteria in a bottle? How well does it work?

hmmm, from my experience ive had really good success with just Cycle. im actually suprised everyone doesnt have better experiences with bottled bacteria, also ive used microb lift cause i use it for my outdoor pond in summer and it keeps the algae in check really really good, my pond would be a giant slime pit if it wasnt for the microb lift, it contains methane supposedlly to put the bacteria in a suspended animation until you add it to water, thats just what the bottle says so. back to the tank though, i just recently got a new tank, new filter. put cycle in it and added fish the same day, three large cichlids and two bichirs and in the two weeks after i did it i got no mesurable readings of ammonia or nitrite, and now i get nitrate readings, so, the cycle pretty much completed as soon as i did it. I know some wont believe me, but i relaly do have a 75 gallon full of healthy cichlids that were put in a new tank on day one, just using cycle, since then its been about two months, still all going good, so, in my opinion, descenting from everyone else here apparentlly, I love the stuff, works great for me, i always have it on hand

oh, also, on all my new tanks i test daily with API master test kit, justt in case you thought i wasnt testing right

x2, I agree. :D I was a major hater of bacteria in a bottle until I used Seachem Stability the first time. I was done with the cycle in just days with a heavy bioload... The nice thing about Stability is that it converts ammonia to non-toxic while your cycling so those few days are pretty stress free.

ive been thinking and i believe the key is to add the fish right away so the bacteria have an immediate and constistant supply of ammonia. i always dose the filter intakes so it gets in there good, just my two cents

its an instant source of ammonia which by nature within a day or three will give you BB which will even itself out in another few days...

but yeah.. its magic BS in a bottle as far as im concerned

we need some actual research on this subject, does anyone know if there has been research done regarding this, in journals, books, magazine articles??????????????

i use this stuff called cycle the owner of my lfs has had his store for years he put me onto it when i fish started he actually gave me a 8 inch jd for free cause it had a bad rear fin but i always put the cycle in then put the fish in and never had a problem but u gotta check the company you buy bacteria from they also have a company out that does dry bacteria product name is biozyme i use that to after wc and it seems to be great
