Hello,

Just curious on what you feed your CA/SA cichlids. Do they prefer sinking or floating pellets.
Also what brand do you feed them.

I feed a variety of sinking nls, northfin, and omega one sometimes hikari the omega is cheapest where I'm at and at least mine anyway seem to like it the most. I've always heard floating causes swimbladder issues not sure if it's true or not just never wanted to find out lol

I feed mine sinking. As for brands, mostly Hikari. I've only had one jaguar that would actually like Northfin. They are touted as the best, but my cichlids really do not like them. Hikari ALWAYS gets struck hard. I'm speaking of my Parachromis such as dovii, jags and the motas I used to have.

Thanks for the info guys. Anybody else have an opinion on floating vs sinking pellets? I'm just about to buy the fish food. Would like to hear a couple more ideas.

FloatIng vs sinking will depend more on the fish feeding habits prior to you purchasing it. The only time when I had a brand issue was a single jack Dempsey that only ate TetraJumbo Min

Ive had no issues with Northfin or New Life Spectrum. I no longer feed fish over 3” any Hikari brand

Most of my tanks are on sumps, and I like to have the overflows draw most water from down low but usually have a small amount skimmed off the top. I prefer sinking pellets just because I can monitor any leftovers more easily, none get skimmed off the top, and I usually have some catfish in my tanks so sinkers make it easier to make sure they get their share.

I do both. Mostly floating, they just like it better. Sinking they will take, but mostly my Dempsey. I do sinking every once in a while just for the cat.
