I'm wondering cuz I don't purposely thaw my frozen salmon chunks for my armatus and red wolffish. I just read that frozen (unthawed) food is bad for a fish's digestive system or something like that. I just take the fish chunks out of the freeze, put in hotwater for 5 seconds so the the fish can soften so i can cut it with scissors. What do you guys do?

I let it thaw in room temp water for a while. I used to rinse under warm water but feel like this removes a lot from the food. Also using hot water to speed it up I noticed oil onto of the cup of water which I assumed was fat being "cooked" out. I have read feeding fish very cold or frozen foods can slow down digestion and body temp and such.

ya i'm just afraid the hot water will "get rid of" a lot of the nutrients.

Lmao I was just wondering about the brain freeze thing last night. They seem to like it tho so I just drop the frozen cubes in my fry tanks and whatever they don't eat I scoop out with a net and give to the big fish. Im not sure how frozen food effects body temp, but the cubes seem to leech oil and other liquids so I wonder if thawing them in a bowl of cold water would be better...

Ya I wouldn't recommend hot water and I don't think the same applies to the little cubes since they pick at the unthawed parts. Correct me if I'm wrong but were talking about fillets and shrimp? Everyone have their own tricks, and mine is definitely flawed as I feed late at night and it isn't fun when I forget about a cup of water with raw shrimp overnight. I do know however it is uncomfortable to eat something frozen and my body temp is regulated around 98. If I was coldblooded and couldn't regulate my temp and all systems slowed when it cooled, I'd probably prefer thawed food. Not saying frozen food is bad, but I don't think it has any benefit, I used to feed frozen for years, but shrimp tails are easier to remove thawed and the food sinks which is good for certain fish

I'm talking about fillets and shrimp that I cut up to bite size, then freeze. I use to let it thaw a bit, but wondered if it is really necessary. So I stopped doing it. I don't know if just tossing it in frozen does any harm, but it does not seem to have any bad effects.

I keep my food pre packaged for individual feedings in the freezer. I usually thaw it in a tupperware in the fridge in the morning before work so when i get home its ready to toss in.

I place the food in a shot glass & dip it in the tank water & set it on the tank, sometimes I ad a drop or 2 of garlic. once its thawed I drop it in
