Ive got 3 on a 125g tank. They are getting old, they dont blow with as much force as they use to and they are kind of an eye sore in the tank, thinking about eliminating them, looking for advice?

I don't bother to use them on any of our tanks. I might concider one to power a Hydro5 sponge filter on a BIG fry or grow out tank but IMO if you have your tank properly filterd you have more than enough waterflow.

I connect mine to a sponge so it serves a purpose, other than just blowing water around. you might want to take the pieces and clean em up, might just be clogged.

Ive tried that and while it helps minimally, they still dont pump like they used to:)

They aren't necessary if your using other forms of filtration....
I am so thanx for the advice, really good advice.

Modern powerheads are all based on the 'mag-drive' types of pumps and eventually the impeller magnet loses it's charge and the flow drops. You can remagnitize them....replace the impeller or buy a new unit.

What other filtration do you have?...

I have an eheim professional II cannaster and 6ft of bubble wall, I do water changes every week.

Thats plenty of water flow.... Just retire them and use the extra money saved on the power bill for more fish...LOL
