Do you hand feed your bichir(s)?

I'm thinking about trying it... but I have four lower jaw bichirs, and eventhough they're small right now... someday I bet they could really do some damage :nilly:

the only thing about it that i see is a problem is that if you hand feed you'r fish then they associate you'r hand with food. So say you'r cleaning the tank they will occasionly bite at you'r hand. Personal exsperience i had a jardi that i grew from 3 inches to 18 and he used to swim up against my hands when they were in the tank and right around them brushing them all the time. But then i started hand feeding him and after that when i put my hands in the tank he associated them with food and would nip at me you know what i mean. So it's something to think about before you start doing a jar doesn't have teeth so no big deel but other fish do you know so think carefully i would advice not to do it but that's just my opion either way good luck

i got bit by a gator gar when i caught it in a stocked pond on vacation in florida set him on the ground and he latched on to my heel left several puncture wounds felt like needles

I used to hand feed a few of my bichirs, but don't so much anymore. I put the hiatus on it when of them started biting my hand instead of the food every time, probably out of curiosity more then anything. When the ornates had their growth spurt I just sorta backed off. I try once in awhile but it's pretty much just the fire eel that takes it.

That's a good point. My bichir is smart though, he'll soon enough learn only to bite if he sees shrimp. Anyway, hand feeding fish is fun.

Cohazard, you should try it's fun. May take some time for your Bichir to get used to it, though. But be careful, don't make them dependant on you hand feeding them.

yeah i hand feed my senagal, once my little senagal is big enough to gop in the 40gal ill try it on him to. and once i get my ropefish ill try it with that to. (once he gets settled in and used to me)
