In the the pet store
do you have sympathy for feeder gold fish?

my answer: yes i do. when i take a look at them for a minute or two i think to myself "man, when they grow up they are gonna be beautiful." i think about the life they could live if they wouldnt get eaten. :(

my girlfriend use to, she bought a bunch and but them in quarantine for a couple of weeks all seemed good and then added them into her daughters tank with fancy goldfish and we had a an ick outbreak. one of her daughters goldfish died and all of the feeder goldfish didn't survive.

I don't feed feeders anymore. I used to feed live heavily and no... no feelings of remorse whatsoever.

I don't have sympathy for them as being feeders in and of themselves, thats what they are bred for. I don't look at it any different then the steak I cook for dinner. But I do have sympathy for the conditions they are often kept in.

nope...no sympathy...i feed them to my fish frequently.

I actually do. Before I didnt, I would feed them and not think twice. I owned a picsivorous fish so I had no choice, I didnt like it but the fish had to eat. Now that my fish now can eat other foods, live foods are unnecessary. Since I stopped feeding live I dont have to worry about the risks and hassles.

I used to think how cruel it was seeing them suffer. if people need to feed live food make sure the feeder dies instant or pretty fast. I think its cruel when they suffer.

I feel no sympathy either. Its what they were bred for. I rarely feed live food though.

I had some feeders in a 5gal quarantine tank and one of them got pregnant so I put her alone in a tank and she had 4 babies. I eventually fed the mother to my catfish. I kinda felt bad about that. 3 of the babies died but here I am a year later and I still have one of the fry. He is full grown now in a 10gal. I could never feed him to anything.

Nope no sympathy... rarely will I feed live.

Nature is nature. A fish's gotta eat. However I do feel bad for all the fish out there getting fed the feeders sold in pets stores that are kept in such horrific conditions.

I genuinely struggle to understand how anyone can feed a fish they are "caring for" a disease filled feeder goldfish, red rosie or other "feeder" fish.

Sympathy on both: the fish eating another and the fish being fed to. My primary reasons are health issues and the fact some people fail to comprehend the importance of nutritional value.
