i have a FH. and as long as your honest about what they are when your distributing them so people know what they are getting then its all ok in my book.

im not a big fan of hybrids when it comes to ruining species but i do own a flowerhorn so..

This should go into the hybrid section.

Nope. I looked into Flowerhorns at one point, but started getting concerned about the emphasis on large head gear and foreshortened bodies. Too much like the fancy short-bodied goldfish I finally gave up on - too many floaty problems.

I haven't seen any thing in a FH I couldn't get in a nice Syns or Trimac...

Can a mod move this to hybrid section?

I think Mo is looking for more of a cross-section of opinions here. If this was just in the Hybrid section, probably mostly just hybrid owners would respond, thus skewing the results.

I'm sure this thread is staying here out of respect for Mo, his intentions and all he has done for the hobby.

What would be the point in that? It would completely skew the results. Mo is chasing a rough percentage estimate of how many SA/CA Keepers also keep Hybrid species.

I'm gonna come clean...

I have a hybrid. It is the result of a Convict crossing with an HRP. I culled all the fry but one. i've had plenty of interesting breedings in my tanks and have culled ALL hybrids since the HRP cross. carpintesxsalvini, festaex carpintes, etc. The Hybrid I have now will never get into someone elses hands.

When I got out of the LFS scene and into the rarer fish about 7 years back What attracted me was the FH. The appeal of the FH was quicly eclipsed (literally a few months) by the beauty of all the less common cichlids I wanted and finally after a few years, currently keep. I do feel bad when I flame people who keep hybrids when I was attracted to this hobby by them.

I'm just glad people like Mo are educating us on the dangers of Hybridizing specially the rarer fish.
