No way in hell......

hybrids=feeders to me for the most part.

Well stated.

Flowerhorns are a path that many folks have taken or could take to get into wild-type cichlids.

If you like big, mean, flowehorns, you'll probably like big, mean wild-types. And you'll need big tanks, plenty of food, and lots of water changes for both.

Educating people on the dangers of hybridization has very little to do with keeping or breeding flowerhorns, exclusively. The same "rules" pretty much apply to wild-type fish as well: Label stuff correctly, don't release fish into the wild, etc.

I'm gonna come clean...

I have a hybrid. It is the result of a Convict crossing with an HRP. I culled all the fry but one. i've had plenty of interesting breedings in my tanks and have culled ALL hybrids since the HRP cross. carpintesxsalvini, festaex carpintes, etc. The Hybrid I have now will never get into someone elses hands.

When I got out of the LFS scene and into the rarer fish about 7 years back What attracted me was the FH. The appeal of the FH was quicly eclipsed (literally a few months) by the beauty of all the less common cichlids I wanted and finally after a few years, currently keep. I do feel bad when I flame people who keep hybrids when I was attracted to this hobby by them.

I'm just glad people like Mo are educating us on the dangers of Hybridizing specially the rarer fish.

For the question.. Yes.

i keep hybrids....

from a seller / economy point of view... hybrids does generate revenue or else hybrid will not be a marketable fish. and hybrid does bring new fish keepers in.. from what i understand hybrids are the fish of choice for new fish keepers....

I know this isn't a discussion.. But they can also be the next step from pure cichlids..

yeah but think about it, if there is no FH in the first place-then we don't have this conversation. It's getting harder and harder to distinguish the two-and if I do get a Trimac I have to pay top dollar since the only guy I trust is Rapps.
