I absolutely despise most hybrids, the most being parrots... The ugliest fish in the trade IMO. I'd rather have a blob fish over those.

Totally agree ^ No I don't keep them and never have. Although I am a believer that Hybridization does occur on a regular basis in the wild.

did not know about the hibridization that occur on midas and devils, cyanogotatus and carpinte until join to this forums, althou i have does two crosses now and like them when i started stocking it, i was looking for pure breds...

about parrots i just dont think its a good idea...

I don't like hybridization ...

there used to be a wonderful variety of Scalare... Angelefish ...

About 40+ % of the breeding stock
of many of the most desirable varieties
were wiped out by a disease that may
have been "encouraged" by hybridization.

Genetic defences, resistance to a common disease
evolved over thousands of years
may have been corrupted ... by cross breeding
and hybridzitation.

A malady that might have been easily
defended by the wild occuring variety ... suspended
and deleted ... decades of selective breeding and development
of interesting "hybrids" for the hobby...

The same is possible for the common "Oscar"; Astronotus ocellatus
I'd hate to see that happen to my first; best tank friend ...
And Rift Lake cichlids ... fugeddaboudit ... they'll breed a gold fish ...

All foolishness aside ....

There has always been speculation that the AIDS and Ebola virus ...
may have been awakened by human oversight / overindulgence

or by our willingness to equate ourselves as ... Creator ...
with little oversight ...

So no ... I find "cross pollination" ... a fault ... even when it's
a plant ...

I'd prefer the Nature "market" to decide....
evolve or to go extinct ...

Keep it safe ... keep it pure .... I'm not God ... and I did use a

capital letter ... we're all tasked to be stewards ...

I have been keeping fish since I was four years old and I think that hybrids represnt the worst in the hobby. We should encourage people to keep non hybrids and breed fish that are becoming rare in the wild. Also, hybrids add to the identification of true species and add to the confussion of new hobbyist. Take for example the "flowerhown" some of them are beautiful, but some hybrids are so much like A. trimaculatum that if someone wants to breed a true strain they might mix up a hybrid and the true species.

If someone is still keepng this going, I have redtail cat/tiger shovelnose cross, about 15" now and growing. Also raise longfin oscars, and blue dempseys, keep me posted.

I have some Tex/BP crosses I'm growing out right now. I will never sell them or give them to anyone else. It was my first batch of fry ever so I just want to keep them. Otherwise I'm not a hybrid fan. My wife bought the BP years ago and it's still going strong. I think it's about 7yrs old now.

Some people dont think wild fish are enough??? if the only thing you want in this hobby is color and personality get saltwater fish and dogs!!!i love my wild fish even if you dont like yours.

I voted yest because I have a TSN x RTC. It's my first hybrid.
