Do you put a mechanical filter AFTER K1 ?

I have a mechanical filter BEFORE the K1, wondering if I need one AFTER.....

If your first filter is doing its job i would think you wouldn't need one after the K1
I have never used K1 though

Never used K1 but have noticed that mechanical was used prior on a couple of YouTube vids. Checkout what Joey does on his filters on Diyfishkeepers .

I do both, I have coarse poret foam before the k1 and a fine after

I am redoing my k1 sump. I will add a before and aftet mechanical filter. Why not? If it is easy, do it.

Haven't used k1. What is caught on the mechanical side coming out?

Haven't used K 1, but I like putting mechanical filtration before biological or other types, because it catches the large particles before they have a chance to clog up the media. Clogged media can prevent oxygen from getting to the aerobic bio-bacteria, those good bacteria live as a thin biofilm on and in crevices in the media.

I actually have a filter sock before, and poly-fill batten after. I do this to catch the dead bacteria. It works, the second filter gets dark and full of sludge in about 2 weeks. My water is very clear and clean in the tank.
