been keeping fish since i was a kid and i have never quarantined. dont see no reason to start doing it now

I was like that for years and years.

then I got my first fish home that had camallanus worms..that I did not see.

eventually saw the worms, treated, thinking I had beat the worms, then a few months later the worms showed up in fish in three different tanks in my fishroom:eek:

now I use a 20g tank to quarentine all fish.

evil camallanus worms changed my opinion.

ich is easy to treat.

camallanus parasites are very difficult.

made me a believer in quarentine first.

Been keeping fish for 40 years and never quarantine. Believe it or not never had a promblem. But I always under stock my tanks and do weekly waterchanges and always overfilter also keep all my tanks at 82 deg. I would not recomend this but it has worked fro me so why mess with something that works.

Call me crazy, but no. And I have only seen 1 pontentially contagious disease on a new arrival which was qt'ed when this was noticed (about 2 weeks after arrival) and was treated and did not spread :)

Only my feeders.;)

quarentining is quite important in reef tanks and planted tanks where ich meds will kill corals and plants, and salt as an ich treatment also usually melts plants..

so you want to avoid ich in planted and reef tanks at all costs, hence the reason to quarentine.

Good to know ~ did not know that!

I will keep that in mind as I intend to get into planted tanks in the future and possibly mini reefs farther on.
