Do you think a fish will starve itself to death?

I have never known a case of a gar starving itself to death, but that doesn't mean you can switch from feeders to pellets with-out an inbetween food like frozen tilapia, shrimp, etc.

I had a female betta that I cured of dropsy. It took three weeks. After this, the female betta never resumed eating despite my attempts and I think starved to death.

Not sure about the live food issue or if this relates to that?.
