i think having the correct spectrum of light for your tank depending on what fish/corals you keep & what part of the world they originate from,Areef system only requires bright lighting say 20k for soral and light dependent invertebrates and usally a reef tank is in the blue spectrum of light, where as say fish from the amazon area would reuire a dimmer lighting setup more in the red spectrum

Of course there are always going to be some exceptions, but in the fish world, you're either prey or predator. Extremely bright lighting is to the advantage of neither.

I rarely have my lights on except to feed then and WC's. Otherwise they seem to like it off better.

I do not believe that any species truely prefer brightly lit aquariums.

What do you do when you step out into a extremely bright day from a dimly lit building with no sunglasses? You blink/ shade your eyes. Eyelids baby! Fish don't have em!

Any fisherman can answer that question: NO FISH PREFER BRIGHT LIGHTS!!!!

It does not depend on species either as most are stating. The bright light is 100% for we human to better see the fish, not the fish to "see".

Try catching fish in a brightly lit are of a body of water with no structure, then go to where there is shade, or structure. No comparison. Use a fish finder and find a drop off or hill and fish it on the opposite side of the sunshine and then try on the sunny side and your question is answered!

Dim lite all the way. Fish do not need aquarium light at all. I keep a flurescent light made for a ten gallon tank on my 65 and it works just fine.

depends on what kind of fish u are keeping

Nope, lights are strictly for your (human) viewing pleasure. No fish prefer bright light! I think that you mean that some species a far more tolerant of being forced into a situation of an aquarium, while others do not adapt well to the extremely uncomfortable situation!

My fish seem to like the dim LED lights I setup for them. Plus I think it looks kind of cool to be able to project the light beam into a certain spot while the water surface creating a light show.
