I unplug mine during late spring, the summer months, and early fall. It's warm enough here in SoCal to let the temperature maintain itself during those times.

Yup keep mine on and plugged in all year.....I have a generator outside the igloo......only comes on when the temp gets a little cooler which is starting to happen more and more up here:D

who doesnt use a heater? lol

um what is so funny about that :screwy:

The way I figure it easier to heat the room the tanks are in than the tanks that are in the room. Since water is a great conducter of temperature it makes more sense to do it this way and sure cost a whole lot less in electricity!!! :ROFL:I did vote using them only in emergency situation though so yes I own them just dont use them much

One other thing for you, I once had someone play monkey with my tanks and tweek the heaters and half my tanks were rocking at very hot temps and had I not caught it that morning I would have come back the next morning to fish stew. No heater means no one can &$^%# with my tank temp.

Like the hells angels bikes say "This bike belongs to a HA *%&*% with it and find out!" Ever since that episode with the heaters I have been extra vigilant when I see people gettting close to my tanks since I run them as display for my restaurant I take extra care to be ready to lay some whoop a s s on the first person I catch tryin to do more than just look at the tanks.

I've always used heaters...
My fish all prefer higher temperatures, so I usually keep it at a constant of 82-84.

I live in autin TX...no need for heaters. I have one in the closet but I only use it to treat disease ect. Otherwise my tanks stay78-80 in the summer and over winter they get down to about 75

Absolutely....I finally got smart and replaced all the glass heaters for stainless steel ones, not to mention the new heaters have external controls...no more getting my hands wet :D

Yikes, my bad, meant to say titanium instead of stainless steel~!
