Do you use Under gravel filter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Crickets ? Do I hear Crickets ?:naughty:

Those crickets are actually intended to be baby black arowanas. But they look more like crickets. :D

For those who were horrified by the goo under the UGF plates:
Do your current filters have ungodly goo in them when you clean them? Is it really a reason to stop using your filter?

If your filter doesn't have nasty stuff in it when you clean it, it isn't doing its job.

A UGF is cleaned by gravel vac'ing (you already knew that), and you don't have to handle the goo. The goo under the plate only builds up so much and the gravel vac'ing keeps it in check.

i have a ugf on my 55 gal. it works for me. i've had it on the 55 since i purchased it second-hand over 10 years ago. i also have 2 hob's on the tank. water is clear and healthy.

I use some ugfs.If the tank does not contain fish that activly move and dig gravel, ugf cant be beat for biofiltration.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm gonna go with the reverse UGF, with my FX5.

Good for you . Here's a link to Chompers RUGF for Ideas.

With a 180 gallon tank and a single FX-5 you will get between 925 and 607 GPH giving you a turnover rate between 5.13-3.37. Design and placement of the suction /drain(s) will be important to getting the RUGF to perform to it's potential. What did you have in mind? What are you going to stock ?
